Cedar is a mellow doe who shows kindness to all, especially Summer. She’s in line to take over the herd queen position and is usually found eating right next to Acorn, with Acorn bellowing at her. She could care less about babies, but comes from a line of does that really love their food. The only thing she loves more than food is scratches. Cedar has a very wide escutcheon and chest floor, an uphill stance and angular rump. She has soft dairy skin and an udder that milks out well. Judges usually refer to her as “the long doe” in the show ring, which makes us laugh because since we have a doe that’s measurably longer, we don’t think of Cedar as long. She has won her young owner several belt buckles for Best in Show and we’re pleased that she’s the 6th in a long line of does to earn her milk star in volume, butterfat and protein. As a Castle Rock Cleveland Sage daughter, she looks very similar to her half sister, Acorn.

Acorn was our first goat, bought as a backyard milker but ended up winning her young owner several belt buckles for Best in Show. She’s a Castle Rock Cleveland Sage daughter and we are thankful to her breeder for such a lovely addition to our family. She’s the biggest, the oldest, and has moved with us, so naturally she’s the herd queen. She stands at the barn door and sorts goats, deciding who may come in out of the rain and who stays out. She was a very loud baby and there were so many times I almost sold her because she wouldn’t stop yelling and the neighbors were complaining. Thankfully now the only time we hear her is when she’s bellowing at Cedar at the feeder or when she’s in heat. As a junior she was chubby but has become a mature doe with a long neck and slim legs and tremendous body capacity. She is so long that we had to build another milk stand for her. She has a capacious udder and peaked at 13 cups per day so we’re pleased to have her on milk test to make it official with a milk star in volume, butterfat and protein. And we’re pleased to contribute to another +B for her sire. Now we’re just hoping for a daughter with her unusual coloring. And if you’re looking for Acorn, you can usually find her on my lounge chair.

We went to Castle Rock to pick up a buck and she climbed in my lap. Later, her owner looked down surprised, “She’s still there?” She chose me and came to her new home to be spoiled at age 4. She’s my puppy dog, following me around, and “helping” me clean the barn each morning. She’s a little doe but can hold her own with the bigger ones. She doesn’t have a buddy but keeps one eye on the house and calls to me if she hears a window open or when she sees my car come and go. She’s a very balanced doe with a wide, level rump and a picture of a howling coyote on her side. Although they look like solid chocolate, she and Acorn are both buckskins and have buckskin babies. She came to us with a milk star for butterfat and protein but this year she earned volume in addition to butterfat and protein.

Summer Goat, as we call her, is here to stay. She belongs to our eldest and even though she is ready to let her go, Summer has a place in our hearts. In 4 different homes in the first year of her life, she is meek around other goats and would rather not eat than risk getting shoved. She is an outstanding mama, will feed any baby, and even if we separate hers to bottle feed, she knows exactly where they are and will feed them through the fence. She still encourages her adult daughter to nurse and twice has come back into milk after being dried off. She has such length of body and nice dairy strength. She is lacking depth of barrel but has amazing body capacity as demonstrated by giving birth to 5 good-sized babies as a first freshener, without even looking pregnant! Her udder is buttery soft with nice sized teats and large orifices that make her our favorite goat to hand milk.

Emilee Hammon Show 2017 (NDGA)- 3rd Jr Kid

Rio inherited her dam’s length of body and lean neck, and her sire’s soft fur. She’s as sweet and calm as both her parents. She kidded at 12 mos with 4 good-sized babies but  didn’t have the capacity to feed them all at such a young age. We’re expecting that she will mature into a lovely doe. She has spent most of her adult life in the baby pen because she still nurses and drinks so much milk she gets a tummy ache.

WindSong is the spitting image of her dam, Calypso, a triple finished champion doe I have long admired. This little one talks up a storm, watching every detail and constantly telling me what’s what. She often challenges our herd queen and with her confidence I can see her there someday. She has incredible length of body with such a long neck and feminine look. Unfortunately a foreleg injury brought her show season to an abrupt halt but we are hopeful that she will be back in the ring.

Rosewood belongs to our youngest child and will be shown as a dry yearling 2019. She’s super sweet and friendly, and very soft. I love her level top line, high escutcheon, spring of rib and width between the hocks. She should have excellent body and udder capacity like her sire and dam.
