Cedar is a mellow doe who shows kindness to all, especially Summer. She’s in line to take over the herd queen position and is usually found eating right next to Acorn, with Acorn bellowing at her. She could care less about babies, but comes from a line of does that really love their food. The only thing she loves more than food is scratches. Cedar has a very wide escutcheon and chest floor, an uphill stance and angular rump. She has soft dairy skin and an udder that milks out well. Judges usually refer to her as “the long doe” in the show ring, which makes us laugh because since we have a doe that’s measurably longer, we don’t think of Cedar as long. She has won her young owner several belt buckles for Best in Show and we’re pleased that she’s the 6th in a long line of does to earn her milk star in volume, butterfat and protein. As a Castle Rock Cleveland Sage daughter, she looks very similar to her half sister, Acorn.

Acorn was our first goat, bought as a backyard milker but ended up winning her young owner several belt buckles for Best in Show. She’s a Castle Rock Cleveland Sage daughter and we are thankful to her breeder for such a lovely addition to our family. She’s the biggest, the oldest, and has moved with us, so naturally she’s the herd queen. She stands at the barn door and sorts goats, deciding who may come in out of the rain and who stays out. She was a very loud baby and there were so many times I almost sold her because she wouldn’t stop yelling and the neighbors were complaining. Thankfully now the only time we hear her is when she’s bellowing at Cedar at the feeder or when she’s in heat. As a junior she was chubby but has become a mature doe with a long neck and slim legs and tremendous body capacity. She is so long that we actually had to build another milk stand for her. She has a capacious udder and peaked at 13 cups per day so we’re pleased to have her on milk test to make it official with a milk star in volume, butterfat and protein. And we’re happy to contribute to another +B for her sire. Now we’re just hoping for a daughter with her unusual coloring. And if you’re looking for Acorn, you can usually find her on my lounge chair.

We went to pick up a buck and she climbed in my lap. Later, her owner looked down surprised, “She’s still there?” She chose me and came to her new home to be spoiled at age 4. She’s my puppy dog, following me around, and “helping” me clean the barn each morning. She’s a little doe but can hold her own with the bigger ones. She doesn’t have a buddy but keeps one eye on the house and calls to me if she hears a window open or when she sees my car come and go. She’s a very balanced doe with a wide, level rump and a picture of a howling coyote on her side. Although they look like solid chocolate, she and Acorn are both chocolate buckskins. She came to us with a milk star for butterfat and protein and with us earned a star for volume along with making it again in butterfat and protein.

Summer Goat, as we call her, is here to stay. In 4 different homes in the first year of her life, she is meek around other goats and would rather not eat than risk getting shoved. She is an outstanding mama, and will adopt others’ babies. She has such length of body and nice dairy strength. She has amazing body capacity as demonstrated by giving birth to 5 good-sized babies as a first freshener, without even looking pregnant! We’re pleased to see that her depth and width has increased with maturity. Her udder is buttery soft with nice sized teats and large orifices that make her our favorite goat to hand milk.

WindSong is the spitting image of her dam, Calypso, a triple finished champion doe I have long admired. This little one talks up a storm, watching every detail and constantly telling me what’s what. She often challenges our herd queen and with her confidence I can see her there someday. She has incredible length of body with such a long neck and feminine look. Unfortunately a foreleg injury brought her show season to an abrupt halt but we are hopeful that she will be back in the ring. Her udder capacity is incredible for a doe her age, and I can’t wait to get her on milk test.

Rosewood is super sweet and friendly, with very soft fur. I love her first freshening udder- size, shape, texture- all of it! She has a level top line, high escutcheon, good spring of rib and lots of width between the hocks. She should have excellent body capacity like both her sire and dam.

Sire: Alethia V Hall Pass*B (Woodbridge Farm Valedictorian *B x SGCH Alethia M Dew Lee Noted 6*M)

Dam: Pope Valley Acorn 1*M (SG Castle Rock Cleveland Sage ++*B*S x Pope Valley Helen)

After a very difficult pregnancy and 18 days at UC Davis Large Animal Hospital, Acorn delivered 4 but this little girl was the lone survivor. With plans to possibly retire her dam early, Valley will be kept as a companion for her mama in her old age.

“Glorie”

Sire: River Edge Heartbreaker*B  (Castle Rock Fjord *B x Castle Rock Cross My Heart 6*M)

Dam: Joyful Hearts KR Joyous Melody (Algedi Farm Kinetic Riptide +*B x Alethia DJ Rejoice)

Not pretty pics at all, but more to come. We love the width that her grand-dam contributed. Glorie looks like the perfect cross between our Summer and Cedar. We are really hoping to get her in the show ring.

“Sky”

Sire: River Edge Heartbreaker*B  (Castle Rock Fjord *B x Castle Rock Cross My Heart 6*M)

Dam: Joyful Hearts KR Joyous Melody (Algedi Farm Kinetic Riptide +*B x Alethia DJ Rejoice)

So far we’re lovin’ all of Hart’s babies! This one is so long and level and reminds us of her dam but with her sire’s face. She has her dam’s blue eyes and her sire’s moonspots. And she got her personality from her paternal side. Of course Sky was the first baby this year to learn her name.

“Cayenne”

River Edge BI Cayenne    3/22/2020

Sire: Sapphire Moon Blazing Inferno (Algedi Farm RB Storm Surge x CH Poppy Patch Red Red Rose)

Dam: Castle Rock Volt 3*M (Castle Rock Guy Noir +*B x GCH Castle Rock Tesla 2*M)

We just love this little snugglebug! She loves to be held and is the prettiest red cou clair/buckskin!
